Dr. Margaret Makanyengo

Chief Executive Officer of Oasis Mental Health Limited

Dr. Margaret Makanyengo is an established consultant psychiatrist with a Master in medicine in psychiatry, and experienced in child, adolescent and family psychiatry, and palliative care in HIV/AIDS in Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). She has been in charge of mental health services in Kenyatta National Hospital for over 21 years. Under her leadership she developed specialized mental health services in various departments in the hospital.


She being one of the founder members of OMHL company, established a 35 bed inpatient facility on Peponi Road currently named Oasis MHL hospital. She retired from Kenyatta National Hospital in June 22nd 2019 after which she was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Oasis MHL hospital for 3 years. She retired from this position in April 2022 and is currently a director and board member of OMHL.


She continues to provide consultancy services for children, adolescent and adults in the hospital. She recently received an award of Moran of the Burning Spear (M.B.S) in 2022 from former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

David Bukusi, MBChB, MMed

Senior Medical Specialist, Kenyatta National Hospital

Dr. David Bukusi, MBChB, MMed, is a senior medical specialist at the Kenyatta National Hospital with a co-appointment as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi Department of Psychiatry.

 

He provides direct psychiatric care at the Kenyatta National Hospital: Mental Health Department, Mathari Hospital, and at the national referral hospital Kenyatta National Hospital, and he teaches at the University of Nairobi’s Department of Psychiatry. He is a co-Investigator for SMART-DAPPER.

 

Dr. Bukusi has worked extensively with the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, and other stakeholders to edit the current Kenya Mental Health Policy 2015-2030. He is also head of Kenyatta National Hospital HIV prevention services in the PEPFAR-funded Centre Of Excellence HIV Medicine (CoEHM) program as well as head of the KNH Youth Centre, which provides mental health and sexual and reproductive health care to youth and adolescents.

Prof. Muthoni Mathai

Associate professor

Prof. Mathai is a Principal investigator in several research projects in the department. She has experience in research work for over 10 years. She is a board member, founder member and director of Oasis Mental Health Limited

Dr Gloria N Sane

Director and Board member MBChB, MMed (Psychiatry). Consultant Psychiatrist

Psychiatrist Specialized in Toxicology, Addiction, Family Counseling, Pediatric Psychiatry, Adult Psychiatry, Adult Neurology, Pediatric Neurology and Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr. Pius Kigamwa

Senior lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry.

Dr. Pius Kigamwa was celebrated by Kenya Psychiatric Association (KPA) for having been in medical practice for close to 40 years.

Dr. Kigamwa is a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry.

He has contributed significantly in the mental health space.

Dr Kigamwa is a founder member and chair of Oasis Mental Health Limited. He recently received an award of  “The Moran of the Burning Spear”  from Hon Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, the third president of Kenya.
